Week 4

First of all, I would like to start off by saying what a nice lesson this has been. I loved seeing all these different types of ways, and hows, and why's of using pictures. Photofunia was a very fun website and I did end up wasting some time there. Using pictures is so important for our students and we really need to learn to adapt to that. As someone who is studying special ed and have done a lot of observations in the past few years, it seems that a large majority of our students would fit into this category. If you show a student a worksheet full of sentences that he has to fill in the blank, this can easily cause a lot of distress in anxiety. However, when you take that same exact worksheet, and fill it in with nice and colorful pictures not only does it take away the anxiety but it grabs their attention and gets them to start working. It's really such a great phenomenon.

In one of the blogs I am following, he talks about keys for successful digital transformations. A huge key to success has a lot to do with what we have learned in this week's lesson. "Nobody likes change, but the fact is that change is at our doorstep." If you can't beat em, join em. So it was really nice to learn that when using Paint, i can use my own personal picture as a paintbrush. :). I'm definitely going to always do that! Now that we have technology at our footsteps, we can work much smarter, not harder, meaning to use it in a more effective and efficient manner.

  1. Hi Meir

I totally agree with you and I enjoyed reading what you wrote.
It's great to see that you think about your second major and connect it to this course.

  5. hi Meir.indeed colorfull worksheets are a great tool. Although the problem is that all institutes still don't let you print in color... especially not in big amounts. I do believe that this will change sooner or later.

  6. I also trained in special education so I totally understand how you would use a mixture of words and pictures especially for those students. i am considering taking better students who are familiar with a computer and changing the language of the menus to English so they can learn simple words like copy, save in a setting they already know.

  7. Besides the fact that I like your style of writing, I agree with what you wrote about pictures being a useful tool, because really, kids get board from just seeing work sheets, and pictures is a tool that is allot mire attractive.

  8. I definitely am not a big fan of "change" but technology is expanding and it seems like a very smart decision to at least try and keep up with it as you wrote, "if you can't beat em, join em!"
